Invitation to CapTech: Advancing Materials for Future Defence Capabilities

May 27, 2026

Join the ECOBALLIFE workshop alongside CapTech

On 10 June 2026, a dedicated workshop focused on the ECOBALLIFE living lab will take place in Cádiz, Spain. This event is organised within the ECOBALLIFE project, together with ADMIRABLE, in order to bring together relevant stakeholders. Importantly, the workshop will take place alongside the 64th EDA Materials and Structures CapTech meeting. As a result, it offers a valuable opportunity to engage directly with the wider CapTech community. The workshop will therefore focus on the role of advanced materials in future defence capabilities, while also highlighting how innovation can support sustainability and European strategic autonomy.

ECOBALLIFE and ADMIRABLE: complementary approaches

ECOBALLIFE focuses on developing sustainable, lightweight, and high-performance protection systems for defence applications. In particular, the project advances ceramic–polymer composites and hybrid structures for improved ballistic performance. At the same time, ECOBALLIFE integrates recyclability and circular design principles into material development, thus supporting long-term sustainability goals. ADMIRABLE addresses similar challenges, although it focuses mainly on naval applications. Nevertheless, both projects aim to improve protection performance, while also reducing environmental impact.

Programme and discussion within the CapTech context

The workshop programme will combine presentations with interactive discussions to encourage exchange between participants. The agenda includes the following key elements:

  • Presentation of key activities and results from ECOBALLIFE and ADMIRABLE
  • Contributions from invited speakers, including Uplift360 and AIMEN Centro Tecnológico
  • Interactive brainstorming session on advanced manufacturing and sustainability in defence
  • Discussion on opportunities to strengthen EU autonomy through materials innovation
  • Wrap-up session summarising key insights and recommendations

Altogether, these activities will support knowledge exchange and provide input to ongoing discussions within the CapTech framework.

Participation and registration

The workshop will take place in person at the Navantia Training Centre in Cádiz, with no option for online participation. Participation is free of charge for all interested stakeholders; however, registration is mandatory to attend the workshop. Participants are encouraged to actively contribute to discussions and share their perspectives, as the event aims to foster meaningful exchange.
