Introducing Work Package 9: Ethical, Legal, and Privacy Compliance

We are excited to introduce Work Package 9, focusing on ensuring the ECOBALLIFE project’s compliance with international and national legal frameworks. WP9 aims to detect and monitor ethical risks, develop ethical protocols, and implement a privacy-by-design project architecture.

Goals and Objectives

WP9’s primary goals include:

  • Detecting and monitoring ethical risks.
  • Developing ethical protocols and adapted codes of good practices.
  • Training in ethical decision-making.
  • Implementing a privacy-by-design project architecture.

These efforts will lead to a comprehensive Ethical, Legal, and Privacy Impact Assessment. This ensures that project outcomes do not adversely affect fundamental rights related to ethics and privacy.

Key Tasks

WP9 includes several critical tasks:

  1. Ethics and Privacy Monitoring: Assessing potential ethical impacts and ensuring GDPR compliance. This task involves an Ethical and Privacy Monitoring Assessment (EPMA), which will assess the severity and likelihood of potential ethical impacts. EPMA will be integrated into the general data protection by design approach, ensuring all parties involved understand their ethical and privacy responsibilities.
  2. Establishment of Ethical and Privacy Standards: Identifying relevant ethical aspects within research activities. This task will analyze data collection, storage, processing, retention, and destruction, ensuring informed consent documents and procedures align with GDPR policies. It will also address incidental findings policies, potential misuse of ECOBALLIFE outcomes, and protection of human participants and researchers.
  3. Comprehensive Assessment of Legislation and Legal Requirements: Analyzing international and national legal frameworks. This task will provide a critical analysis of the most relevant European and international regulations, identifying regulatory gaps and limitations within current legal frameworks.

Multidisciplinary Team

A team of experts from PLUS ETHICS leads WP9, bringing extensive experience in European R&D projects, regulatory compliance, and ethical governance frameworks. Their expertise is central to guiding WP9’s mission and ensuring robust compliance across the ECOBALLIFE project.
