CEMTEX Visit Highlights ECOBALLIFE Solutions at Santa Margarida Military Base

CEMTEX played a key role during the visit of Portugal’s President to Santa Margarida military base, where ECOBALLIFE solutions were presented. On 30 April, CITEVE joined an official visit organised by the Centre for Military and Technological Experimentation. The visit marked the first official engagement of the new President of the Republic with the base. The event aimed to present projects developed jointly with the Portuguese Army in several strategic areas. Within this framework, CEMTEX created a space for dialogue between defence stakeholders, researchers, and technology developers.

CEMTEX Supports ECOBALLIFE Protective Equipment for Defence

During the event programme, CITEVE presented ECOBALLIFE developments in impact and puncture protection. These included innovative vest and helmet solutions designed for enhanced personal protection. The ECOBALLIFE solutions demonstrate how advanced materials can improve soldier safety while supporting circular economy principles. At the same time, they address real operational needs identified by military end users. Thanks to CEMTEX, these technologies were presented directly to defence representatives and decision‑makers.

ECOBALLIFE within a Broader Defence Collaboration

In addition to ECOBALLIFE, CITEVE showcased other defence‑oriented initiatives developed with CEMTEX support. These included projects on smart textiles for physiological monitoring and thermoregulation. However, ECOBALLIFE remained central to discussions on personal protection and equipment performance. The project illustrated how sustainable materials can meet demanding defence requirements. Moreover, the visit encouraged direct exchanges between project teams and military stakeholders.

Overall, the visit reinforced ECOBALLIFE’s relevance for defence innovation and applied research. It highlighted the importance of close collaboration between research centres and the armed forces.
